As promised, this is the last article of the Robin’s serie. To this category I would like to talk with you about this hero in every shape and form and how people use his name.
In the Nottinghamshire, there is an annual gathering when August is coming. At this time, you can hear the call to Robin Hood’s gang at their oak of Sherwood. Next to, there is a reconstructed village where we celebrate the famous hero with magic tricks, jousting, fauconery and medieval music on the backgroung. This festival has been taking place since 1984 near to the 1000 years Nottingham’s castle. Between us, I am dreaming to see this, just once.
Also, there are many associations which respond under the name of Robin Hood as comedian troups, an another organises musical events near Toulouse (France), or also, as an association that stands up for forests preservation…
Robin Hood is mainly famous un our western culture as in Europe or some american countries. Even so, his renown is less well-known in others coutries, they have others heros with similar ideal as ou famous archer.
As in Korea, fro exemple. North or South doesn’t matter because they share the same culture on this point. It’s about the legend of Hong Gil Dong who became the people’s hero by robbing the richs to give to the poors and reporting the corruption while protecting the weaks. If you are curious, the platteforme Netflix suggests two series on this topic. The first one hold the name of this hero and the second is called « Rebel: thief who stole people ». I checked it up again and, unfortunately, the second serie is not more avalaible in France, maybe in another country? Too bad for me. I really appreciated the show.
At a time not so long ago about miscellaneous, there was a gang of thiefs leaded by Whang Shengli in China at the begenning of the 2010s. They shameless robbed rotten local gouvernment officers with no worry to be caught. Indeed, the rotten ones can complaint to be robbed without reveal all the money they losed. How justify this amount of money if you are not corrupt? Because, a hudge campaign against against the corrupted people was open at this time. However, Wang and his fellows robbed an overdo person. This one was waiting for their arrival and was able to complaint after the robbery. Police arrested them at the end of two years of robberies. The only similitude with Robin here was to rob the richs rotten officers.
At least, that Robin Hood was real or not, that people clamed to be his heirs to justify their crimes or not, he still one of many emblematic characters of literature. His legend doesn’t need introduction anymore. There are numerous versions of his tale through ages as books, movies, poems… To my eyes he will be still the hero who I grow up with, the one who tooks side against injustice. He has the bravery, the kindness, the humour with this touch of arrogance that make him an exceptionnal being.
