Because I spoke about a book of Aladdin, I must talk about of the movie as well. Of course, there are many versions of this so, to be more specific, I will talk about the movie released in 2019 with the well-known Will Smith. I chose this one because I think they are many things interesting in the story which was introduced to us.

I will not make a brief summary here since I already did it in my previous article on Aladdin called « A whole new world ». If you didn’t readt it yet, chek it out by click on the link.
I warn you that my opinio can share some spoilers even if I am trying to avoid it. Alright, do you know how much I apprecieted the new way of showing the story of Aladdin? I have already noticed before with the other adaption cartoon/movie of Disney but the job they did is amazing. Backgrounds are gorgeous obviously however, I was more fascinated by the work on the storyline which gave much realism to the story. Well, if we can talk about realism with genie, witcher or even a magic carpet… I talk about realism because they work hard to give a realistic context to the story. Go on.
In the 1992’s version, Princess Jasmine must be married before she reachs her sixteen anniversary. I understand that we need to keep that simple to children but, come on! Just to say, I like the cartoon movie. In the movie of 2019, a geapolical context takes place and makes it more attractive. We acknowledge that some characters are more deep than we thought. Princess Jasmine does not want to be married not only because of the law but also she thinks that she can take care of the kingdom without need a man by alliance wedding. She loves her country and wants to contribute to its evolution by herself as suzeraine, that’s quite badass. Jafar also appears in new light. We now talk about a man that climbs position until he gets in the palace. He wants the power because his vision of a strong empire is different of the actual sultan’s vision. Aladdin and Genie had some improvments too but they mainly stick of base of their original character.
Little extra: creation of new characters as the female companion of Jasmine who is also her confident. I think it’s thank to her that we can see and learn more about Jasmine and her desirs of reign with kindness without needs a husband. Other thing is there is more interractions between Jamisne and Aladdin that explain more why a connection between them is born.
About movie’s anecdote, I didn’t find many of them except that Will Smith took is time before agreed to play Genie. Indeed, it was really hard to him to take over the role after the great Robin Williams. Will Smith accepted at least when they told him that he can play the character with a new rap personnality that suits him better. Something else, even if Mena Massoud did a great job by playin Aladdin, it still difficult to find another role on similar production as Aladdin.

So, did I liked this movie? The child and the adult within me say out loud a big yes. I actually bought the DVD in case I want to rewatch it when the internet doesn’t work. Besides, I find logical to buy it when I appreciat something. Of course, some people grumble about actor’s paid, we can’t forget that it is not just about actors. It’s a amazing team and meticulous work which make possible to watch this masterpiece as Aladdin. Cookie Agrabah with realism chips!
