Little Women

Who hasn’t heard of Dr. March’s daughters? But who really knows this story adapted numerous times on our screens? For my part, I have never read the book written by Louisa May Alcott. I haven’t seen the films either except for the one released in 2020. And if I saw it, it was to complete my general knowledge which is not very complete. And what did I think? You will have to read this article to find out.

Summary: As the title suggests, the story is about the lives of Dr. March’s four daughters. However, it remains more focused on Joséphine, « Jo », who dreams of writing and independence. We follow her through the streets of New York until a letter asks her to come home. From then on, we follow the story of sibling relationships through the present and flashbacks to the time when the sisters all still lived under the same roof.

As a writer, I have an initial affection for the character of Jo. In addition, this nickname is the same as my heroine in my first trilogy « The Flaw of Shadows ». However, in a period where women lack freedom in relation to the desire of this young woman, the latter annoys me a little. Indeed, if Jo wishes to have more freedom, great good to her, but for her to try to impose her ideas on her sister who only wants to get married and start a family was annoying. People who try to impose their uncompromising way of seeing things on me are the ones who horrify me the most.

The best aspect of this film, from my point of view, is the highlighting of the different visions of life that the sisters have. Each has its own character, expectations and different talents. For my part, this is really a story that asks you to accept the other even if you cannot fully understand their way of thinking.

So I really like this film, however, it is not part of my top 10. But for that, I would already have to have a top 10. However, I took it on DVD to watch it again when the desire takes me, with a good cup of tea, the rain falling and a crackling fire to pass the time gently.

Today’s batch is a bag of four cookies in various flavors. You want some?
