Escape from Mr Lemoncello’s Library

It’s Thursday! Who says Thursday, says book! Today is, however, a little special because I usually talk to you about novels that I read in French and then you offer its title in English. This time, I am going to comment on a book read in English. And by any one, the first one that I managed to read in one go without resorting to any translation. Let’s go!

Book’s Card

  • Title: Escape from Mr Lemoncello’s Library
  • Author: Chris Grabenstein
  • Serie: M.Lemoncello
  • Editeur: Puffin
  • Publication 2013
  • Number of pages: 288

Summary: An eccentric billionaire, inventor of board games, invites a group of children to spend a night of games and adventures in the fantastic setting of a library where traditional shelves and traps of all kinds mingle. Will the children manage to solve the puzzles that will allow them to escape? Besides, why were they challenged to solve them?

Announced like this, the work is very reminiscent of another classic “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”. And it is indeed very close. Here, we follow Kyle and the draw is replaced by a cover letter written in the classroom to be one of those who will be able to enter the bookstore.

My English vocabulary was just starting to expand when I started reading it, however, the reading is for all audiences and therefore accessible to children. That’s good, I’m a big kid. Not only reading was simple but also, the story was very interesting. The descriptions, the twists and turns, the betrayals… A child-sized quest in this wonderful book.

While doing my research on the book, I realized that a miniseries existed on the adventures proposed by the character of Mr. Lemoncello. I may well have new books in my library very soon. I also saw an adaptation on the screens. Who knows? I could write a little article on the subject for you if I feel like it.

In plus, some games await for us at the end of the book. Could you resolve them?

What are you waiting for? Instead of chocolate, come eat a book cookie!
