Demain, j’arrête! (Tomorrow, I quit!)

My first book by Gilles Legardinier! Yes, we started to talk about this author with his work “Complètement Cramé!” (if you haven’t read the article yet, it’s here!) and I had to continue by introducing you to the first novel I read by him. It is since “Demain, j’arrête!” that we have seen these covers with funny cats appear in our bookstores. Unfortunately, as with his previous book presented, I was unable to find an English version. If you have any information on this subject, I’m interested. So let’s go?

Summary: Julie has a well-ordered life: her job at the bank, her apartment and a few evenings with friends. One day, a newcomer with an intriguing name, Ricardo Patatras, moves into her building. Who is he? What is he doing? What does it look like? Julie multiplies the blunders and intriguing plans to find out everything about this mysterious neighbor.

What to say? Julie is the good friend of Gilles Legardinier who comes to give us news. She’s not the most extravagant of our group, however, she’s not the calmest either, especially if love is involved. Through the pages of this novel, I really had the impression that Julie was me, one of my friends or someone I knew. We do the best we can and sometimes we let ourselves get carried away. However, there come days when the routine is broken and the energy returns to us, things move and we are determined to move too.

I laughed a lot following Julie’s adventures. Between her and her best friend, I don’t know how this author understood us women so perfectly. I can totally see myself being in the same situations, or almost, or even worse. If we compare it to “Complètement Cramé!”, it may turn out to be less funny, but the story is no less sympathetic.

If you haven’t read it yet, go do it!

A Patatras cookie?
