Fanfan la Tulipe: book

Hi Hi. SO? The weekend is coming soon? Yes, I can’t wait too. So excited this article might be shorter than the others. On the other hand, no, it’s not just out of laziness. The book I’m talking about today is a little different from the ones I’m used to talking about. Let’s go!

Book’s card

  • Title: Fanfan la Tulipe
  • Author: I.Blaty
  • Publisher : Intervista/Manitoba
  • Published : 2003
  • Number of pages: 156

Summary: Fanfan is a handsome young man with devastating charm whose edge of the sword is deadly. Poor, without family and without a name, he nevertheless takes life as it comes to him, and so do the girls at the same time. To escape a marriage and following a young woman’s prophecy, he enlists in the army for the raging war. From then on, duels and romance punctuate the story during which he was given the last name “La Tulipe”.

In general, you write a book and one day, it is possible that it will be adapted by the 7th art. For this one, we do everything backwards. The film was released and the book was subsequently written. (By the way, there really are books referring to Fanfan la Tulipe written well before their cinema release.) So this way of proceeding made me curious. And for the little anecdote, I got it for free, a free reading is twice as appreciated.

I say this, however, I never finished the book. This could enter into the eternal debate which is better the film or the novel, yet it does not have to take place here. For this time, the book is simply and purely a transcription of the film. There is no more or less detail, I had the impression of looking at a screen with audio description subtitles. For someone who has seen this story many times, it was a horrible read! I was bored and preferred a thousand times to watch the film version again. In short, this writing process is really not for me. However, for those who like it, I applaud you.

On that note, we talked more about form than content today. I would offer you a cookie, but I have no idea what its flavor would be. See you next time!
